Arlene Amaler-Raviv and Dale Yudelman LIVESTOCK
LIVESTOCK, a collaboration between painter Arlene Amaler-Raviv and photographer Dale Yudelman was created in 2003 for the Eighth Havana Bienniel in Cuba.
The original installation of fourteen panels on cloth, each measuring 2x1m, were suspended from an intricate aluminium wire system. The series of works recollects the image of a row of flags outside an international symposium venue. In this case it is the New York Stock Exchange.

Aza Mansongi Take Five
Archive, 2019Take Five is an exhibition by Aza Mansongi that engages with the position of the self in the broader context of what we have come to term as ‘the new normal' due to the global pandemic.Mansongi uses self-reflection as a point of departure and meditates on the tension between our changing social relations and consciousness.Through the visual dynamism of her works, we reconsider interpersonal connections and shared moments of humanity. She demonstrates an innate understanding that art is not an unconscious behaviour but rather a conscious feeling. Her striking paintings filled with bodies intertwined in social cohesion are almost the very antithesis of our current forced state of social distancing. They are imbued with an almost palpable humour and positivity that reassures us that mankind will survive this pandemic. But includes a tongue in cheek warning that we should use this time to consider whether the search for wealth and material possessions is really that important to us.The exhibition runs from 28 January to 28 February 2021Click here to view the exhibition -

Portrait of Dr. Esther Mahlangu by Clint Strydom
Esther Mahlangu 85
The Melrose Gallery is pleased to announce 'Esther Mahlangu 85', a powerful solo exhibition in celebration of Dr Esther Mahlangu's 85th birthday on the 11th November 2020. Dr Mahlangu is the globally acclaimed visual artist and much loved cultural ambassador of the Ndebele Nation.
Despite Dr Mahlangu's global standing, this is surprisingly one of a handful of solo exhibitions to take place in South Africa, over her illustrious career that spans more than 7 decades.
'Esther Mahlangu 85' will therefore present South Africans and international collectors with a rare opportunity to experience such a wide body of works displayed together in one space. The exhibition, curated by Ruzy Rusike, launches online on this viewing room on 11 November and in The Melrose Gallery on the evening of 19 November and runs until 30 th of April 2020
