This sculpture is assembled from found suburbanartefacts, mostly objects of security, surveillance anddivision. Together, they create a particular aestheticthat is very familiar to South Africans, and yet pushedto the edge of our consciousness so that it doesn’t taxour day-to-day living. The resulting object becomes asymbol of securitisation, imparting a kind of semioticsof risk and alarm.
