SCULPTX 2024
Nestled in the heart of Melrose Arch, The Melrose Gallery proudly hosts SculptX, South Africa’s largest annual sculpture fair. In its seventh year, SculptX transforms the gallery and the surrounding urban precinct into a vibrant hub of artistic expression. The event draws art enthusiasts, collectors, and curious onlookers to experience a stunning array of sculptures, each reflecting the boundless imagination and skill of its creator.
SculptX is renowned for its inclusivity and diversity. Each year, it features dozens of artists presenting hundreds of sculptures, all free from a specific theme or brief. This results in a captivating mix of works, from intricate desk-sized pieces to monumental installations that require cranes. The materials are as diverse as the artists themselves, ranging from traditional bronze and marble to innovative recycled materials and modern composites. This variety showcases the versatility of sculpture and offers something for every taste, from classical to avant-garde.
This year’s highlights include monumental figures by Strijdom van der Merwe and Alexander Savvas’s Anemoi, a polished stainless-steel sculpture that reflects and interacts with its environment. Past editions of SculptX have featured impressive works such as life-size samurai sculptures by Nicola Roos and a giant rose suspended from the ceiling, adding whimsy and surreal beauty to the gallery. With an exciting lineup of artists and imaginative displays, SculptX 2024 promises to continue its tradition of excellence and innovation, offering a truly enriching experience for all.
