Dr Willie Bester South African, b. 1956

"I am sometimes tempted to go to the seaside and to paint beautiful things from nature. But I do not do it because my art has to be taken as a nasty tasting medicine for awakening consciences."

Dr Willie Bester is globally recogised as one of South Africa's foremost resistance artists. Willie scours the scrap heaps of the Western Cape collecting metal and found objects from which he creates his powerful assemblages and sculptures. These artworks are a powerful voice against injustice of all forms.
